I am an artist working in abstract expressionism with a mixed media approach to painting, collage and assemblage using acrylic and oil paints, wood and found items. I see myself as a life long risk taker and overall explorer. I find a sense of freedom from experimenting and pushing boundaries as I attempt to do in my art making process.
From life experiences, I have been a conflict resolver in a variety of situations, responding to challenges with a regard for opposing variables. I take a similar approach to creating art with my interest in bold and bright color combinations and the worn and distressed imagery of aged and well-lived surfaces. I explore recognizable and non objective imagery with an underlying set of stories of my life’s journey with a passion for mark making and colorful patterns.
I was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived in Michigan until the completion of a graduate degree in Pediatric Audiology from the University of Michigan. I continued my education and continued my work experience in Chicago over many years.
Although I loved to draw as a child, I developed my keen interest in art while in Chicago. My social and cultural growth expanded in the arts, with a clear passion in the visual arts thorough my exploration of the abundant museums, galleries and ubiquitous art works throughout the city. I was especially drawn to the Chicago Imagists and the abstract narrative paintings of bold and colorful expressions through a vast assortment of mediums.
Upon relocating to Sacramento, California, where I continue to live, I continued in my field of work and raised our children. Along the way, I pursued my own art process from multiple courses at Sacramento City College. I am currently creating art at a shared studio as well as my home studio on a full time basis.
